Robyn Avalon

Nearing her 5th decade of teaching, Robyn Avalon is the Founding Director of The Contemporary Alexander School, which is the US branch of the Alexander Alliance International, Co-Director of Alexander Alliance Europe, and Core Faculty of Alexander Alliance Japan. She also is the Co-Director of the Alexander Alliance International, which oversees all Alliance programs worldwide.

Robyn has focused her teaching career on making the Work more accessible in the world, developing unique and effective tools for both Introducing the Work and teaching in Group settings. She offers post-graduate courses for teachers who want to add these skills to their toolbox.  She also offers Training paradigms that are realistically accessible to those who wish to become Certified Teachers.

A large part of Robyn’s research has been on creating effective ways to bring the Work to where people gather to do whatever they do: to orchestra rehearsals, ski mountains, offices, medical practices, gyms, schoolrooms, and art studios - to name a few.  She has taught at many of the world’s leading performing arts organizations throughout North America, Europe, and Asia; as well as founding the Musician’s Wellness program at the prestigious Meadowmount School of Music, and being a guest teacher at over 40 conservatories and performing arts departments. Her unique course, Body Tuning™, supports performing artists and arts educators in understanding and accessing their innate design.

When not working with performers, Robyn has enjoyed teaching diverse populations, including: the Ladies PGA; the US Olympic Dressage Team; the Texas Aggies Football Team; plus many fitness and martial artists, fine artists of all genres, medical and holistic/somatic practitioners, and movement artists .  Some of her favorite moments have been working ‘in the field’ with sky divers, rock climbers, professional chefs, and surgeons.

Robyn is the Creator of Living in a Body™, a Professional Body Mapping Certification Course for educators from all disciplines, which has been offered worldwide, both in-person and online, and in multiple languages, for over 30 years.

Her newest series of courses, called Somatrix™, explores the interface of AT with the fields of embodied consciousness and 5th Dimensional frequencies.

Robyn is particularly interested in the intersection of DEI and AT, and enjoys working with the Alexander Technique Liberation Project (ATLP) to bring more awareness to our professional community.  Her own community service has been focused on serving the LGBTIA and queer communities in cities where she teaches.  She regularly offers workshops for those exploring gender embodiment, as well as delightfully serving Burlesque and Drag communities worldwide.

Robyn bases herself in Santa Fe, NM and NYC with her wife of 35 years; and enjoys visiting her 2 sons whenever and wherever possible - both of whom are professional classical musicians, and travel as much as she does!
