Jana TiftJana S. Tift has taught Alexander Technique for over twenty years in both academic and professional settings. A former member of the graduate acting faculty at Florida Atlantic University, she has taught actors, singers, dancers, and other performers throughout the U.S. and abroad, including the Lawrence University Conservatory, Arizona State University, New World School of the Arts, and Vanderbilt University.Jana co-authored Your Body Knows: A Movement Guide for Actors (Routledge, 2020) with Meade Andrews. She has led Alexander Technique workshops at the Southeastern Theatre Conference, the Freedom to Act Conference, Bill Evans Somatic Conference, and the 12th International Alexander Technique Congress in Berlin, Germany. She is a teaching member of Alexander Technique International, and a proud member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. An award-winning director, she has also been artist-in-residence at Hendrix College and the Ragdale Foundation.Her favorite moment, when teaching AT, is the look of awe and wonder on a performer’s face when they realize they can play, dance, or act without pushing or forcing.
